Welcome to Lake County which is home to Clear Lake noted probably to be the oldest lake in North America.
The lake provides shelter for sport fish such as bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. There is also Sacramento perch, tule perch, and hitch and has the best bass fishing in the West!
The Great Blue Heron is Lake County's symbol, and these birds can be seen throughout the county which is easily traveled in a few hours' time. Be sure not to miss out on the stunning views, including that of Mount Konocti which is a dormant volcano and rises 4300 feet. The name comes from the Pomo words "Knoktai" taken from "kno" for mountain and "hatai" for woman, according to historical accounts. The best view of this majestic mountain is from Austin Park in the city of Clearlake.
The weather in Lake County is generally mild with average highs January through March of 60 degrees, April through June of 80 degrees, July through September of 95 degrees, and October through December of 65 degrees.
You can drive to Lake County from the south going over Mount St. Helena (Hwy 29) or from the north from Ukiah (Hwy 20), and also from the east or Sacramento via I-5 turning at Williams (Hwy 20).
